On Wednesday, 28th August the Year 12 Biology class went to Melbourne University to attend the GTAC centre for genetics. They were able to participate in a program where students model meiosis and use fluorescent probes to explore the inheritance of genes using a fluorescence microscope.
They used DNA technology to determine the inheritance of alleles for these genes and constructed pedigrees to predict the inheritance outcomes for the offspring of parents. The outcomes of meiosis for inheritance of alleles and chromosomal mutations were explored.
