On Monday 21st July, Mr Daniel Andrews MP, Victorian Leader of the Opposition, accompanied by Mr James Merlino MP, Shadow Education Minister and Mr Luke Donnellan, Labor Member for Narre Warren North visited Gleneagles Secondary College.
Mr Andrews announced an election commitment of one million dollars to fund the building of a new soccer pitch at the school (to be built behind the Shed near the bus bays).
The school has long advocated that this is a much needed facility for the school and local soccer clubs. The facility will also be regularly used by the Hallam Senior College Soccer Academy.
Mr Donnellan MP has supported this development and he was delighted to be able to make this announcement. His support over many years is greatly appreciated.
I would also like to acknowledge the involvement and assistance of the City of Casey Councillors Cr Rafal Kaplan and Cr Rosalie Crestani from the Four Oaks Ward and Cr Amanda Stapledon for their contribution to this project. The City of Casey has recently included funding in the 2014/15 Budget to commence planning of the pitch and have indicated funding in the years to come.
As Principal, I am delighted with the active support of both local and state politicians from both parties. It has been a long journey but with so much support, I am quietly confident that our students will finally have a facility to match their passion for soccer!
