On Wednesday 20th August 2014, Gleneagles successfully hosted the annual Performing Arts Variety Night concert in the Shed. This is always a highlight of the year that showcases the enormous amount of talent of Gleneagles students as well as the commitment of the instrumental teachers in preparing them for these opportunities – Kim Ball, Paul Dunn, Mark Dipnall, Troy Male, Nicole McAlister, Sally McKenzie, Mauro Perez and Jenny Royle. Acts included the junior and senior bands, the school choir, vocal, guitar, flute, clarinet, saxophone ensemble items, with a touch of contemporary style as seen in the various vocal performances. Jazz styled items were also performed to a high standard including a wonderful saxophone solo by Josh Kannemeyer 11C and the wind ensemble performing ‘Blues in the Night’ with performer, Mark Dipnall.
A big thank you goes to Tim Riley 11A, Craig Barry 11C and Braeden Alford 11J who did a wonderful job in running the sound and lighting equipment and also to Josh Hunt 9E, Jacob Scanlan 9B, Andre Dababneh 7B, Byron Molloy 7I and Claire Holdsworth 9C – the best backstage crew in the history of Gleneagles Variety Nights! Thank you also to the MCs for the night (Josh Kannemeyer 11C and Lee-Anne Lazos 12H) and to Jen Riley and the PFA who ran the canteen with students Angel White 8C, Carissa Peart 8C and Cara Lee 8C.
