Australia Day Study Tour

Australia Day

Australia Day Study Tour Awards are presented to young people in Year 11 or equivalent age (16 years of age in the year of the award) who have been nominated by their school or employer for a demonstrated interest in, and a reasonable understanding of, politics and community events and issues. This award is designed to give young people the opportunity to explore the political and administrative systems of our nation. The nominated young people are shortlisted for interviews, which are conducted by a community panel. Gleneagles Secondary College nominated three students Jarrod O’Donnell 11E, Olumide Yinka-Kehinde 11H and Miriam Fares 11E.   All three students were such strong candidates that all of them were successful in winning a place on the Australia Day Study Tour.

The Study Tour comprises of three stages:
• A half day and evening session at Local Government, which includes an introduction to City of Casey and dinner with the Councillors.
• A full day visit to the State Government including a meeting with local State Members of Parliament.
• A four day visit to the Federal Government in Canberra which includes a day at Parliament House, meeting with Federal Members of Parliament, visits to the High Court, National Gallery and other places of interest.

Congratulations to Jarrod, Olumide and Miriam.
