On Friday 24th April 2015, Gleneagles conducted its whole school athletics carnival at the Knox Athletics Track. Fortunately, the day turned out to be sunny and warmer than expected, as Gleneagles produced a record for attendance at the athletics carnival with a very similar turnout to the swimming carnival. The carnival was highly anticipated by all the Houses with students (and teachers) dressing and racing for points in a wide variety of events including jumping, throwing, running and don’t forget the teachers’ novelty relay! After a busy day of dashing and cheering the Kestrels took out their second title for 2015.
The 2015 athletics carnival introduced a new raffle ticket system. In this system every student who participated in an event was given a raffle ticket, with the chance to win movie tickets if their name is drawn. Since the raffle was restricted to participants only, this encouraged many students to have a go and some even took part in an event for the first time; they even had to combine age groups in the 400 metre races because we were running out of time!
We would like to thank all the teachers who assisted with running the day, as well the students who volunteered to ensure that everyone didn’t miss any events. Finally, well done to all the students that took part and supported their peers to do their best. Without everyone’s contribution the day wouldn’t have been a success.
