BIG DATA CHALLENGE DAY, MONASH BUSINESS SCHOOL
On Thursday 31st March 2016 Lisa Li, Year 11C, joined 110 of the best and brightest Year 12 students from more than 30 schools in Victoria to battle it out for Big Data Challenge Day at Monash Business School.
The students interacted with like-minded students from other schools, attended a master class, and were given a problem-solving challenge in actuarial applications, data analytics or business statistics. The challenge allowed them to develop an understanding of how their math skills translated to university study and how these skills apply to real-world scenarios.
Throughout the day the participants were mentored by Monash Business School students. In addition, students attended a presentation where they had the opportunity to hear from leading industry speakers in the fields of actuary, data analytics and market research to inspire them and to show the dynamic career opportunities available in these areas.
The event proved a resounding success with many students commenting that the day allowed them to better conceptualise the experience of studying data analytics and mathematics in a university setting. Congratulations Lisa on an outstanding achievement!
