SMR Athletics Report

“They may not be the best, but they are definitely not like the rest…” They did not just willingly participate in the school carnival, but they also proved their dominance to be selected in the school team and within students in the Casey North Division. The process was competitive, vigorous and nerve-racking for the students. Before every run comes the anxious wait for the starter gun. Before every jump and throw, the arm and leg muscles tense up and shiver in hope that the one move they need to make is the right move. But the 13 Gleneagles students that were able to overcome this and successfully advance to the Southern Metropolitan Region Athletics Championships experienced an atmosphere of a whole new level.

On Thursday 6th October 2016,  these 13 students competed against some of the fastest and strongest age-group champions across the region and even the State at Casey Fields Athletics Centre.  A massive congratulations to all the students that reached this stage. For some of the students, this was their first experience contending at a highly competitive level, but it was certainly rewarding for them to witness starting blocks and race walking with their own eyes. It was definitely a well-deserved and worthwhile experience for everyone.  Good luck to the students who have progressed to the School Sport Victoria State Championships on Monday, 17th October 2016 at Lakeside Stadium Athletics Track. Finally, thank you to Ms Cooper for supporting and looking after everyone throughout the day!
