YEAR 10 STUDENTS AT GLENEAGLES TAKE ON
THE VICTORIAN HIGH SCHOOL CANCER CHALLENGE
On Friday, 27th October 2016, four Year 10 students currently doing VCE Biology were selected by their teachers to take part in the High School Cancer Challenge at Walter and Eliza Hall Institute in Parkville. The students were Fatima Mozafarri, Noora Chandrary, Jake Stockdale and Saad Javed. Each student sat a test about the hallmarks of cancer research and competed with students from all over the State. They also had the opportunity to hear from top cancer researchers studying Melanoma, Immunotherapies and many different ways cancer research is heading.
Students had a chance to network with first and second year biomedical students and also to tour the labs at WEHI and ask questions about the latest research being conducted there. They were called to make a difference by being cancer researchers of the future. The winning student was offered a summer internship at WEHI, this was won by a student at John Monash Science School. Gleneagles looks forward to competing again next year and learning more about the fight to tackle cancer through cancer research in Melbourne and around the world.
