At Year 9 and 10, students get the opportunity to select electives based on their interests, abilities and future pathways. Students have access to the online program that gives them information about the range of electives on offer, parents are encouraged to discuss the options with their child and then all students in Year 8 and 9 meet with a teachers one-on-one to make the final selection online.
At Year 10, students with the right set of study habits have the option of selecting one or more VCE subjects. A VCE information night is held for interested parents and students, where the pros and cons of starting VCE in Year 10 are explained. Students are then expected to make applications for one or more VCE subjects and are assessed against a number of criteria before approval is granted.

I have been taking Home Economics classes at Gleneagles for the last three years and absolutely love it. I was lucky enough to participate in the ‘Masterchef Challenege’ earlier this year and learned how to create some beautiful dishes. It was so much fun and we even had Ms Duffy, one of the Assistant Principals, act as our guest judge. This subject was important for me to be involved in as I have learned many valuable skills to use throughout my life. Participating in Home Economics has enabled me to create complex dishes such as chocolate soufflés and melting chocolate fondant puddings. Learning to cook at school has been so much fun and I am proud of what I have accomplished.
