Year 12 Study Conference

Year 12 is going to be a significant and challenging year for your child. We believe that the Gleneagles VCE program is going to be rewarding, supportive and designed to get the best outcomes possible for all VCE students. To ensure your child has the best chance of starting the year well and equipped with all the skills needed to succeed, we will be holding a Year 12 Study Conference at various Universities within Melbourne. The Year 12 Study conference will not require students to stay overnight, instead they will be required to travel to and from the various Universities each day according to the plans detailed below.

 

Monday 3rd February 2020,  – RMIT – City Campus.    Travel to and from the venue, individually by public transport to meet at 9:15am

Tuesday 4th February Deakin 2020,  – Burwood Campus, Monash Uni- Peninsula Campus.    Travel to and from the venue, individually by public transport to meet at 9:15am

Wednesday 5th February 2020,  – Monash Uni, Peninsula Cammpus.  Students will travel by bus from Gleneagles then on to Sofia’s Restaurant for lunch.  Returning to the college by 3:30pm.  Students with dietary requirements should inform Mr Evans or Ms Reynolds

Dress Code: Full School Uniform

Transport: Public transport Monday 3rd & Tuesday 4th.     Bus from the College on Wednesday 5th.

Please note, return time Wednesday 5th – approximately 3:30pm 

Cost per students: $30.00

Consent: Required, due y Friday, 6 December 2019

* Specific public transport timetables will be provided to students at a later date to assist them in planning their daily travel arrangements. Students will be required to travel with a mobile phone or with a fellow student who has a mobile phone and staff mobile numbers will be provided to students in case of emergency.The aims of the Year 12 Study Conference include: Focussing attention on the VCE Year VTAC application process Stress management Key dates Time management Study skill techniques. It is felt that these aims can be best achieved away from school and the classroom. Students benefit greatly from a good working relationship with each other and with staff. A number of Year 12 teachers will be present throughout the Conference to assist with discussion groups, tutorials and coaching in their subject fields.It is an expectation that all year 12 students will attend all three days of the Conference, it is an essential/required/mandatory part of the VCE learning program.To reduce the cost to families the school is subsiding the study skills consultant costs as we believe this Conference is essential in setting the tone and expectation we have for all our VCE Students. This cost covers all venue hire, bus transport to and from Gleneagles on the days specified above and lunch on Wednesday. Monday 3rd and Tuesday 4th February students are required to bring their own lunch & snacks or money to purchase.

Compass now gives eligible families the option to pay/consent using CSEF funds if available.

If you wish to draw from a payment plan or pay in cash, you will need to download the permission form or send written permission to the Finance Office advising payment method. The finance office is open from 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday.

Please note: the school must obtain written or electronic consent from parents or carers.

Parents are reminded that DET does not provide students accident cover or ambulance cover. Parents are advised they should make their own arrangements for these matters.
