Year 7 and 8 Learning Programs

During the Junior School Years, Gleneagles Secondary College provides a sequential curriculum with opportunities and experiences designed to meet the needs of all students. Each student experiences a comprehensive and balanced education program based on the Victorian Curriculum.

The deliberately broad curriculum allows students to experience the full suite of subject options, whilst still focusing on the development of core knowledge and skills.

Foundational to all subjects is a strong emphasis on the development of literacy and numeracy skills. More information about our approach to the teaching of literacy and numeracy skills can be found on the ‘Literacy and numeracy’ page.

Year 9 Learning Program

During the Middle years, Gleneagles Secondary College continues to provide a sequential core curriculum, augmented by a range of elective offerings and our renowned Challenge Program.

We recognise that students are more likely to be motivated to learn when they study subjects in which they are interested. Providing students with the opportunity to elect to explore a variety of subjects and pathways supports them to engage in learning, try new subjects, connect learning with our community and their own lives and begin to articulate their direction for their senior studies. Electives are selected from across the learning areas and students (and parents/carers) are supported, through our careers program, to consider a range of studies and to understand the pathway options that align with each subject.

Please click on our Year 9/10 Curriculum Handbook for further details of elective offerings and the Challenge Program.

Year 10 Learning Program

The Year 10 program combines core subjects that ensure students maintain a broad range of pathway options, with allowing students to begin to specialise and accelerate in specific areas of interest in preparation for their continued education through to Year 12 and beyond.

Whilst Mathematics, English, Science and Health / Physical Education are compulsory, Year 10 is primarily an elective based program. Year 10 students are encouraged to undertake a VCE accelerated subject, as it offers a valuable insight into the VCE experience and prepares them for a full VCE or VCE Vocational Major program in subsequent years.

VCE | VCAL | VET (Year 11&12)

Gleneagles Secondary College offers the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), the new VCE Vocational Major and Vocational Pathways Certificate and a wide range of VET offerings.

We are focussed on ensuring we offer a broad range of subjects that reflect student demand and are committed to ensuring that students can access pathways that they enjoy and have a strong affinity for.

Across Years 7-12 students are supported to understand career pathways and this comes into sharp focus in Years 9-12 as we work with students and families to help them understand the extensive information and to discuss options with our expert staff. This ensures that students are fully supported to make the right subject and pathway selections.
