Leaving secondary school is a big step. It can bring excitement, uncertainty, stress, or a mix of all three. Whatever you're feeling, it's normal and everyone experiences change differently.
Some common challenges include:
- Making new friends and connections in a different setting
- Adjusting to study, training, or work environments
- Managing responsibilities, deadlines, and finances
- Adapting to new routines and expectations
- Finding a sense of belonging and identity in new settings
- Worrying about making the right decisions
Tips to help with the transition:- Learn about stress and your early warning signs so you can put healthy coping strategies in place
- Accept some things won't go to plan, but can give us opportunities for growth
- Be kind to yourself. Changes in routine and the unknown can be difficult
- Break large goals into smaller, achievable steps
- Create a routine that includes activities you enjoy
