R U OK? Start the Conversation
We all have good days and tough days. Sometimes a friend might seem quieter than usual, upset, stressed, or not quite themselves. That's when a simple question can make a big difference: "Are you OK?"
Checking in with someone shows that you care. You don't need to be an expert or have all the answers. Just taking the time to listen can help someone feel supported and less alone.
The R U OK? Steps
Ask R U OK?
Choose a time and place where they'll be comfortable opening up and ask in a way that works for you.
Listen
Acknowledge their feelings and ask open ended questions.
Encourage Action
Suggest talking to a trusted adult, family member, teacher, engagement leader, or wellbeing staff member.
Check In
Follow up later and ask how they're going.
Remember, it's okay to not be okay. If you're going through a tough time, reaching out for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.
Together, let's build a school community where everyone feels welcome, valued, and supported.
